Hi MTF,
After many years of only owning round watches (Rolex sport models), I decided in 2002 I wanted to get a real dress watch. This was shortly after buying my Wife a Cartier Tank Francais. She became a watch snob, and will not even consider a quartz watch (even though I own a Rolex oysterquartz), so I got her the large men's automatic. After trying it on in the store before the purchase, it really struck a nerve with me as to how different a square or rectangular watch feels on the wrist. It also looks so different on your wrist rather than in the case.
Thats when I knew I wanted either a square or rectangular watch for my first dress watch. I currently own, only three dress watches but none of them are round. There are some beautiful round dress watches on the market, such as Calatravas, Altiplanos, and Lange 1s. But it feels special and like I am really dressing up when I go from my daily wearer round Rolex watches to something square, rectangular, or a asymetric. Its like going from sneakers to fine dress shoes...its not just a different look, but a different feel.
I must admit am not a fan of the JLC Squadra, I much prefer the rectangular Reversos. IMHO the proportions of the rectangular model are much more attractive and elegant. Maybe I am biased, since one of the first dress watches I considered was a Reverso Sun/Moon. I would definitely like to own a rectangular Reverso someday.
Here is a photo of my 1st dress watch.
Best regards,
Dino
