The Piaget Limelight Blooming Rose - GOA39183

I adore Piaget’s lady’s watches. More so than with any other brand, Piaget’s lady’s timepieces combine elegance, superlative craftsmanship, and an amusing, whimsical playfulness that elevates their watch designs over its competitors.

While the static beauty of the 34 mm diamond-set Altiplano will well-serve those who have a more classical taste in watches along with an appreciation of mechanical movements:

and the Gala brings a more whimsical touch to the round dress watch with its dramatic lug design that incorporates a waxing and waning of diamond points along the bezel:

and the sheer brilliance of the tonneau, with more than one thousand diamonds in the setting on the dial, case, and bracelet:

I have a special affinity for the designs that have a more kinetic and/or malleable quality. The Limelight Dancing Hours is one favorite, with a ring that spins freely above the dial:

I find this design a great alternative to the Happy Diamond collection from Chopard.

Next is the Limelight Magic Hour timepieces, whose oval shape can be rotated between a horizontal orientation, to a diagonal one, to a vertical one:

The focus of this review is a new model, the Limelight Blooming Rose, in rose gold, reference GOA39183.

Piaget has been incorporating rose designs into its watches and jewelry since the 1960’s, and Yves Piaget joined the Geneva International New Rose Competition in 1976 as a juror (winners would receive a gold Piaget rose. In 1982, the winning cultivated rose was renamed the Yves Piaget Rose, and that particular rose, with its peony-like dense blooms, has inspired Piaget contemporary watch and jewelry designs.

The Limelight Blooming Rose has an 18K rose gold case measuring 34 mm in diameter. The dynamic, and amusing, characteristic about the case is the “bloom” of the rose. The wearer can rotate the upper petals 45 degrees to allow the watch to bloom!

Before:

After:

The petals are set with 252 brilliant cut diamonds with a total carat weight of 2.4 ct. The diamonds are held to high quality standards with D-G color, and IF-VVS clarity.

The white satin strap has a leather backing and the rose gold buckle is set with 13 diamonds with a total carat weight of 0.1 ct.

Inside the watch is Piaget 56P movement. There is no need for a crown as the time is pin-set via the pusher on the case back;

The retail value of the Limelight Blooming Rose is $45,800. It is also available in white gold for $46,900. While I ordinarily prefer diamond to be set in white metal setting to enhance their brilliance, the Blooming Rose is the exception that proves the rule: The rose petal theme is enhanced with the rose gold setting.
