Hello again, Thomas!

Yes, certainly having some historical knowledge for our brand discussions is very helpful.  Our friends at Piaget have kindly relayed some intriguing information about their case manufacturing history.  They confirmed that Piaget did make some 14K gold cases, but only in the US market, as that particular alloy is not allowed in Switzerland.  There was no recollection of the Manufacture ever making 12K gold cases in any region.  In the late 40s, Piaget also made some gold-plated cases, as well as steel cases.  A subsidiary brand of Piaget, called Aleure, produced gold electroplated steel watches until 1950.  Piaget's Private Collection contains examples of some of the steel, gold-plated, and Aleure watches from this time period.

Thanks for the question.  I found the above information very interesting.  I think Piaget makes excellent cases and I love many of the silhouettes presented in the modern Piaget lines like the Emperador, Emperador Coussin, and the late, great Upstream design.

Cheers,

Daos

In the perennial question about the so-called Big Three (ironically, in Taiwan and parts of Greater China, the "Three P's" include Piaget...) a large part of the justification for The Big Three is the fact that a. they have a continuous and contiguous pro...

Found your info mentioning Aleure watches. Just wondered if you knew anything else about them ? Info about these watches is pretty hard to find on the web. I won't mind knowing or getting some idea as to their value. Does the fact that they were made by P...

Unfortunately, I don't know any more than what I posted previously. I've personally never handled or seen an Aleure in the metal. Perhaps, a Piaget collector or historian of the brand would find an Aleure piece valuable in some way, but I've not heard of ...
