VERY Slightly Less Thin
Jul 13, 2009,19:36 PM
I believe the 40mm is also VERY slightly less thin in width than the 38mm is. This is due to the small second sub-dial at 10 o'clock.
40mm (838P)=2.5mm
38mm (430P)=2.1mm
The sizes are better seen when look at the cases in person. Although I can't say it makes much of a difference...the watches are already extraordinarily thin
Just thought I'd throw it out there.

... it's an ultimate dream concerning a dresswatch (would go for a look at VC-Patrimony and Moser too) ... It is still a far away dream because i have some other dreams on my wish-list .... Greetz, Filip

The standard (mens') round Altiplano is 38mm diameter with 430P round movement. The XL (mens') round Altiplano is 40mm diameter. What else do you like about this watch? Regards, MTF

MTF, I understand this model in 38mm comes with a non-sapphire case back. Is this the same with thh 40mm XL model? Or perhaps the slimness of this range prohibits a sapphire case back? Thanks in advance.
40mm Altiplano have sapphire casebacks....

to show the 838P movements with seconds hands display at 10 o'clock. With increased interest in movements recently, the newer 40mm XL cases have inspection backs. Regards, MTF

I'm glad you went with the rose gold! I think out of all the three gold tones in this Altiplano, the rose gold looks the sharpest...especially with the black strap. Great choice!
